The fourth book in the series by the same name,
Hearts Linked by Courage, Honouring Loved Ones and Caregivers on the Dementia Journey shares the stories of York Region residents impacted by this fatal disease. Each story offers a different look at the dementia journey from the view of the person diagnosed with the disease or their caregivers. Because dementia affects different parts of the brain, no two journeys look the same, therefore, no two stories are the same. This anthology offers an honest look at what it is like to live with the disease and how the diagnosis of it changes the dynamic of the relationship between husband and wife, parent and child, and friends.
The dementia journey is a lonely onefriends and family disappear often upon diagnosis, and the person diagnosed with the disease loses a little more of him or herself every day, leaving their loved ones to mourn the loss of their person and their life together.

While there are no happy endings after a dementia diagnosis, there are moments of laughter, happiness, and joy, as well as frustration, exhaustion, anger, and grief. Through the stories in the Hearts Linked by Courage book, caregivers new to the dementia journey will learn lessons from those who have come before them and will understand, while their paths are difficult, they are not alone.
The Alzheimer Society of York Region (AS York) is there to help make the journey easier for individuals living with the disease and provide support for their caregivers as well.
