Hearts Linked by Courage People Supporting People
~ Author CAYR Community Connections
Welcome to the fifth book in the Hearts Linked by Courage series, featuring the personal stories of people supporting people in York Region and their lived experiences with HIV/AIDS, drugs and substance use, and the 2SLGBTQ+ community. These stories explore challenges, triumphs, and incredible resilience. They were shared within the safe, confidential, and inclusive spaces of CAYR Community Connections, formerly the AIDS Committee of York Region. This book was made possible thanks to funding from the York Region Community Investment Fund for the Peer Links project. We are grateful for the many individuals who have been involved with the Peer Links program from 2019-2021.
Despite medical progress and advocacy, there continues to be stigma associated with HIV/AIDS, substance use, and identifying as 2SLGBTQ+. As such, this volume of Hearts Linked by Courage is intended to create community between the reader and the writer. These stories provide opportunities for learning, personal enlightenment, and seeds for social justice pursuits.

Our story contributors remind us that we are not alone in our experiences and that we can learn from and appreciate another person's journey. May we all find a common ground within these stories and together build a stronger York Region community.
